I am not convinced that we need to rethink intelligence. Just as with many things, the basics provide more value than the latest thing. But they're not as exciting.

From the presentations at SCIP to the articles in CI magazine, there are far far far (is that enough emphasis?) too many presentations on competiTORS and data. This is not intelligence. Intelligence is not software and it's not on the web (although some small pieces of info may be found there.)

Intelligence takes time; it's sophisticated; requires thinking and objectivity. And it must include an external objective view of all the areas that do or will impact that business or industry.

When the results of our CI investigations provide value, then we will be used more in the corporate world, and our profession will grow and be highly regarded (angels now start playing their harps).

Michael,
At this point, the skepticism about the merger is quite legitimate as not much has been disclosed by F&S. This ning environment shows at least two things though: CI is live still and to take Eris Garland's words, it is digital now.
Chris.

@Eric Garland I'll send you the bill for the drycleaning the cup of coffee I shot out of my nose later :)

Besides, everyone knows Dolphins are only good at primary.

Does anyone know when and how the SCIP vote on the merger is occurring? Is there a closing date for the poll?

Just the very fact of this new and important discussion group would seem to indicate that there is a high degree of skepticism about the utility of this 'merger' (of unequals) if and when it actually occurs.

In fact, is the vote even relevant? or do I sense that there is an implicit understanding that SCIP has run its course?

If ever there was an example of creative disruption, this might be it. There appears to be a unique opportunity here to shift towards different modes of communicating (which SCIP never really understood nor wanted to), with a different (or perhaps essentially non-existent) business model.

It's quite unclear (to me) how all this will play out, and that's what makes it so fascinating ...

regards

Michael
