Social media are extremely helpful for such things as discussions (eg, current SCIP F&S debate) and for making useful contacts. But I absolutely agree with Babette. And you may wish to look at Seena Sharp's comments at Intelligence 2.0 (and my supporting remarks).

I think social media is a gold mine for finding people to talk to who will give you information, and perhaps more. I use Twitter and LinkedIn pretty extensively and successfully. Like any other source, you want to check out their accuracy and credibility, but these networks have allowed me to reach people I could never have connected with previously in my wildest dreams, and quickly.

Very interesting. I understand that social media networking was a big topic at the recent SCIP conference. My concern is that while it provides CI professionals with greater access to different sources of information, it still does not provide any intelligence. We need to remain aware of this. CI practitioners will still need to do the analysis, liaise with intelligence clients, etc.

Indeed Richard you seem pretty well covered as far as information retrieval is concerned. What about analysis, sharing, collaboration with others? What about aggregating those feeds together? Any insights would be helpful.

I use e-sobi. It is a rss and podcast feed reader. I can add the feeds I want, I can store pages for later use, I can set alerts. Seems to be more powerful than the free readers. SInce you can organize it the way you want, it provides a way to quick…
