There are circumstances in the market today that threaten to capsize almost any enterprise you can imagine. Some of these factors are under business control and some are seemingly under nobody's control. While this is dangerous, I believe the key is keeping our minds alert to the factors which are at play.

The nature of early warning in CI is in visualizing our fears, giving form to them, and setting up tests to make sure that the feared circumstances do not materialize without warning. We also help strategists develop contingency plans to cope so they are not in reactive mode when adverse circumstances arrive.

It seems to me that companies would be in desperate need for such services. The key is in identifying the opportunities and pitfalls, then working with the companies most likely to benefit or suffer from these circumstances.

The stimulus bill itself is a thornier problem. Government interventionist policies have a clumsy way of picking winners and losers that has little to do with market forces. But it sometimes takes a very close reading of law and policy to understand how that mechanical process unfolds.

There is CERTAINLY opportunity in all this. Ya fling a billion bucks here and a billion bucks there...pretty soon it's real money. Catching hold of some of this cash is the fun job of the century!

Do you think the economic stimulus bill will present opportunities for freelancers?

How can we leverage the current economic environment to our advantage?

My usual method on joining any group is to introduce myself and then drift, listening intently to others in the group. While doing this just now (metaphorically) I wondered if some of the basics I learned and taught BC (before computers) would be of any use if iterated on this Forum? Let me know!

My company uses independent BI/CI contractors regularly and we are always on the lookout for more, in Asia, Europe, Middle East and North/Latin America. Details at http://www.fusionc.com/freelance.htm.

In addition to contacting SCIP's global chapters / affiliates, what would be the best way to locate independent CI contractors in various regions, especially contractors with particular skill sets (e.g., primary interviewing, quantitative analysis, writing/editing) or industry experience?
