Buying any kind of software requires a great deal of thought into why and what it is going to be used for. Intelligence software is no different in that respect. Please share best practices in this area and what the key points are to think abut before deciding what to implement. What must be included and what is not so important? Should everything come from one vendor or should you build it on your own?

Difference between Business Intelligence (BI) and Competitive Intelligence (CI) softwaretag:competitiveintelligence.ning.com,2009-01-12:2036441:Topic:144792009-01-12T22:22:21.234Zmonica nixonhttps://competitiveintelligence.ning.com/profile/monicanixon32
Sometimes CI software is mistaken for BI software and vice versa. Both are used for decision support, but CI normally deals with unstructured information while BI focuses on strucutured information. This is not always crystal clear to prospective users and because BI is a much larger market (for the moment...), we need to point this out more clearly. I would appreciate any comments on this or pointers to information that can help distinguish the two types of software.
Thanks!

Thanks! Case studies of CI softwaretag:competitiveintelligence.ning.com,2009-01-12:2036441:Topic:144742009-01-12T22:17:16.161Zmonica nixonhttps://competitiveintelligence.ning.com/profile/monicanixon32
In order to promote the more widespread usage of CI software, it would be valuable to showcase those companies that actually do use dedicated CI software to automate the intelligence process.
Does anyone have any good case studies or presentations that describe how competitive intelligence software is being used in organisations? And what benefits this has provided?
Thanks!

Hi,

Guess I'll start something on a fine Monday morning. I have been on CI projects for about two years now and have never really come across any specific software for CI (barring the exception of one vendor who showed us something which could track news / events on websites and compile a news letter of sorts) and so never really pursued that matter until now.

Are there any other types CI software tools out there or are we talking mainly about the "news letter compilers"!!
