Competitive Intelligence Case Study: Tracking Your Competitors to Reveal Critical Industry Trends

I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with serial entrepreneur Martin Blumenau at his trendy office in Umspannwerk Kreuzberg to talk about his use of Competitive Intelligence in his previous ventures. Martin shared that, in his previous startup, continuous monitoring of the competition revealed a critical industry trend: lack of demand.

Martin joined the Gigalocal team before they launched in summer of 2011. Gigalocal is a hyper-local, real-time market-place for mini services. …

"Horse Feathers Economics"

The quote, "If wishes were Horses, Beggars would ride" seems more fitting than Voodoo economics which didn't gain much traction nor did Supply-Side Economics, or other Classic Economic Theory.

The revisit to…

Visualization of interfirm relations in a converging mobile ecosystem

This is the kind of sophisticated CI analysis a mobile device company should be engaged in.  Brilliant use of visualization, this is excellent work:

Re-Thinking the CI Process and Practice in the Networked Business Environment

This is the slide-deck from a presentation I gave in Fall 2012 for SCIP Boston's CIdea Fest. My actual presentation was fail, as I stuttered and stumbled my way through it, projecting a nervous energy that I imagine was uncomfortable to watch. Nevertheless, it was ideas that were supposed to matter – I think some people got it, but it was lost on many.

My aim was to introduce and adapt the paradigm of network-competition to…

2012 Presidential Election under the Microscope

Have just read the analysis of the 2012 Presidential election that highlights or recognizes that a claim that an Army of Computer Engineers, Mathematicians and Social Scientists (No Statitisticians
are directly identified) claim victory of Big Data. The major factors cited were Survey Research and Microtargeting. What seems missing is the very worse form of Competition - Gamesmanship!
