Thanks for your note back. Yes, I am a Canadian, and so a rarity at Unisa! I was scouring the globe for a doctorate that was specifically in the leadership area within a business context (as opposed to education etc.) I also wanted it to be reputable, able to be completed while working, and good value. Of the ones I looked at, Unisa won hands-down. It didn't hurt that I had alwaya wanted to visit South Africa.
I was just there for the first time last month. I presented the first chapters of my dissertation (using online social networks to break down silos and enhance collaborative innovation) to the faculty.
I thought SA was amazing - as you say, a real sense of opportunity in the air despite the challenges. I stayed in Midrand at the Owl's Loft Guest House (run by Rob & Alison Tracey). Throughly enjoyed the stay there. Headed down to Cape Town for a couple of weeks afterwards. I will be coming back 2-3 times next year to present more of my research.
What is your doctorate in? Hopefully it is going well. Cheers..
PS. I will invite you as a friend if that's okay.
Hi Marie-Luce,
Thought I would take a moment to say hello. I see you are based in SA. Though I am based in Canada, I am currently completing a DBL at Unisa, and have recently made the first of several trips to SA - what an amazing country! Cheers.. Rob
PS. IBIS looks like a very interesting firm.
Thanks and by way of an update, we've decided to go with Zoe Sophia Johnson as the final, FINAL name - not that we want her to necessarily walk in the footsteps of any one in particular, such as Empress Zoe of Constantinople or the Hagia Sophia cathedral there in which she's depicted (sorry, it's the History Undergrad in me), but because we thought such a thoroughly Greek name would be a pretty juxtaposition against her Scandinavian surname. Then again, maybe we're overthinking that a bit.
Hi M-L: So nice to have you join our growing group. Thanks for visiting and please feel free to stay involved and active. Hope we'll see one another again soon in person. Until then, be well. Best wishes, CF
