Competitive Intelligence

Tactical, Operational & Strategic Analysis of Markets, Competitors & Industries

Hi,
I frequently request public records from government-owned entities to better understand my competitors who share informations with these entities. I'm now at the point where I'm requesting certain types of public records from these same government-owned entities and will use the information to inform myself how they conduct their businesses and compete against these government-owned entities.

Is requesting public records from the government-owned entities to better understand them and then competete against them, a violation of the Freedom of Information Act or any Open Records Act?

Thanks.
