Very interested in getting into the field of Competitive Intelligence. I am looking for a career change and have found this to be a challenging yet exciting opportunity. I could certainly use good advice on getting a degree in this field and also beginner's material to begin to learn more.
There are no college or university programs that I know of with a curriculum on CI. It's a field of study that relies on a variety of skills that are typical in any discipline that is focused on research, analysis and writing. Personally, I didn't target the field as much as I evolved into it through a series of positions that required some measure of competitive analysis, eventually becoming expert at it. As it turns out, it was a good natural fit for someone like myself, being systematic, methodical, creative, and curious with a dogged persistence to uncover the details, then weave all that into a tapestry of sorts that provides a big picture view as to what's going on. That's a mouthful, eh?
What makes you think it's an area you'd like to work in?
So to your question about where you can learn more, I suggest you check out www.SCIP.ORG (Strategic & Competitive Intelligence Professionals) and the Academy of Competitive Intelligence (http://www.academyci.com/ ).
Good Luck, stay curious and keep digging!
