Discussion will center on methods to use when having the value conversation with management and clients. Communication, strategic partners, working relationships, and technology are the tools needed to create, carry, and deliver the message.

BIO FROM SLA...

Constance Ard is owner of Answer Maven, a consultancy based in Louisville, Ky., USA (www.answermavensolutions.com). She assists her clients in projects focusing on e-discovery information risk management and strategic social media content. Prior to establishing her practice in 2008, she served as library & research services trainer and branch manager for Greenebaum Doll and McDonald.

SLA has been a valuable resource for Constance since beginning her career in 1996. In addition to serving as president of the Kentucky Chapter and chair of the Legal Division, she volunteered on several SLA committees and is an alignment ambassador. Constance's committee involvement includes past service as the diversity chair of the Kentucky Chapter and Chair of the Professional Development and Regional Meeting Committee of the Legal Division. Constance currently serves on the Legal Division Strategic Planning Committee. She received the Kentucky Chapter Member of the Year Award in 2006 and the Kentucky Chapter Professional Award in 2008. Constance has maximized her success in both the Legal Division and the Kentucky Chapter by coordinating and assisting with combined professional development activities between the two SLA units. This collaboration resulted in high-impact events that provided unique educational and networking opportunities for SLA members. She has shown similar initiative in her work with the Kentucky Student Group, from leading group discussions to serving as a mentor.

Constance offers insights as a business owner, SLA member, and information professional and has presented in a variety of environments, including SLA continuing education courses, annual conference programs, and continuing legal education courses. She participated in an SLA Spotlight Session at the SLA 2011 Annual Conference titled "Capitalizing on Content to Grow Competencies."

She currently serves on the New Member Outreach Committee of AIIP and is a member of the Kentucky Virtual Library Advisory Council. For over 10 years, she has been engaged in a variety of positions in the Kentucky Library Association and is recognized as the person who asks: "Why? If it isn't working, shouldn't we change?" Finally, Constance serves as a leader and organizer of The Seed 2020, a networking group in Louisville dedicated to women and minority-owned businesses. This group gives Constance an opportunity to demonstrate how research can be a foundation for businesses to flourish and discover out-of-the-box opportunities.

In 2009 she published her first book: Next Generation Corporate Libraries and Information Services (published by Ark Group). Her most recent article was published in October 2010: “Legal Research in the Age of Open Law” (Online). Constance is a frequent contributor to the Legal Division Quarterly and is currently writing materials for an upcoming NBI, Inc. These activities demonstrate Constance's dedication to adding value to the profession and illustrating that value beyond information professionals to the community served by those professionals.

Using Semantic Technology to Better Leverage Data and Drive Busines...

Tuesday,  August 30, 2011
10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. ET
16.00 - 17.00 GMT +1

Today's next-generation technologies have transformed how and where companies do business. With an increasing amount of business activity conducted online, every business channel, from the home office to every link of the supply chain, is impacted by the growing digital footprint of information. Managing information, over 80% of which is unstructured (emails, documents, Web pages, articles, reports, content from social media, etc.), is at the heart of every organization's business challenges.

Semantic technology is being used by some of the world's most innovative and important organizations to transform the way they manage and utilize information.

With its ability to capture knowledge and make it more meaningful, semantic technology is a powerful tool for helping organizations manage intelligence and increase the value of intellectual capital - its most important asset.

Semantic technology, long associated with search, is more than just finding information. We hope you will join us on Tuesday, August 30 at 10 a.m. ET/16.00 GMT +1 to learn how semantic technology can benefit your bottom line.

In this webinar, you will learn how to apply semantic technology for:

  • Information Management: Discover, manage and filter any amount of structured or unstructured information.
  • Customer Service: Maximize intelligence from customer data to empower more responsive, cost effective customer experience management.
  • Social Media Monitoring: Listen and extract intelligence about what users are saying about your company, your brand on social media (Facebook, Twitter, blogs, forums, and more).
