Market and Materials Indices in Support of Pricing Intelligence

I was wondering if there is anyone with some level of experience in linking pricig intelligence (and ultimately actions) with indices (e.g. crude for transport and/or many chemical compounds or metals for constrcution, etc.).

Where is it being done, what impementation experience can be shared and how can it be solved without massiv overhead in the back end (e.g. ERP) to stay interdependent and at flow?
