The CI community seems to have mixed feelings about its future given the fact that technology threatens to make access to "intelligence" an un-exclusive virtual free for all. I shall explore some possibilities here, and attempt to locate my own place with the winning team of the future in the bargain as well.
Here is the issue: Technology and the "Intelligence 2.0" phenomenon are poised to present to industry a kind of Commercial Intelligence Panopticon (hereafter CIP).
First of all--and this…

Market intelligence solution: benchmarking the best intelligence software solution for your company
http://bit.ly/J09p6
Why?
The Internet contains many valuable bits of intelligence offering a substantial competitive advantage for companies able to track them efficiently. For that reason, a plethora of vendors today offers intelligence solutions and it became cumbersome for companies to find the one that will better fit its needs.
How?
Digimind, the…

With the bankruptcy of General Motors, our economy has finally hopped over the plane’s wing into the Twilight Zone. Not that this event was surprising to anybody with a cursory interest in money or cars - GM bet its future on the world’s endless thirst for bloated Hummers and Yukons and left quality and disruptive innovation to Asian rivals, all while locked into being America’s largest private provider of healthcare and pensions. You can get six Jack Welches, ten Peter Druckers and those guys w…

Whenever you start any type of business, it is a pretty good idea to see what competition you might have out there. Find out what they are charging, who they are and what type of volume they have. If you are planning on starting a Mobile Oil Change busin…

Win loss analysis is my favorite tactical cooperative intelligence practice as it offers the best ROI of any sales intelligence tool. You gain intelligence by interviewing your customers shortly after the sales event to find out why they chose to do business with you or decided on a competitor. The data gathered combines knowledge from sales, customers, competitors, and your marketplace.
Consider these points to develop a cooperative B to B win loss process:
- Clearly identify objectives for c…

"There are no secrets, only information you don't yet have."
Source: from the
Drop.io Blog
I thought that was a very pithy, if apt, description of CI.

Do the managers that fund your competitive intelligence (CI) function ask how your company’s CI function stacks up against world class standards? Providing fact-based evidence of how your CI function compares to world-class standards has several benefits. First, you can evaluate your CI function across nine (9) dimensions that define world class standards. Second, you can isolate aspects within each dimension that can be targeted for improvement. Finally, you can develop an action plan to enhanc…

I just received an email this morning informing me that Cormac Ryan passed away last Friday after a battle with cancer. Cormac was a long time, active member of SCIP and I had the opportunity to speak with him several times during various events at SCIP, including SCIP08 and the 2007 European Summit in Bad Nauheim. I always enjoyed speaking with him.
A memorial service will be held this Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas.

Some scary reading from NYU interactive telecommunications Professor,
Clay Shirky, who was
interviewed on io9 a couple of weeks ago on the subject of his new book, “Here Comes Everybody: The Power of Organizing without Organizations”.
The premise (and I’ll preface that I am no scholar of social web evolution) is that there is a gro…

My one-time partner in crime and fellow Oracle Collaboration Suite lover,
Matthew Moore, has summarized 20 or so years of communications development in the IT industry and
posted it for all to share.
I’m biased, but Matt’s bang on the money with this one. Email definitely needs to know it’s place in the whole communications scheme of things. It’s just one medium, on…

Josh Bernoff, a VP at Analyst firm Forrester, recently covered the topic of “Should you talk about your competitors”? You can read his post
here at Forrester’s
Groundswell site.
The comments covered range from the fully endorsing to the firmly against. Obviously, you never want to give your competitors a free run. This is even more the case when you’re in…
