Profile Information

About Me:
Pharma and biotech consultant focusing on competitive intelligence, portfolio analysis and marketing strategy.

At Icarus Consultants we specialise in competitive and business intelligence in the technical areas such as oncology, hematology, immunology, respiratory and HIV, but also cover other therapeutic areas such as cardiovascular, dermatology and neuroscience.

Our experience covers a broad range including traditional competitive intelligence, landscape opportunity assessments and key opinion leader research.

My particular area of interest and research is experimenting and utilising web2.0 tools to support our strategic analyses.

My previous background includes 13 years at Novartis in the UK and USA in marketing, new product development and other functions. The highlight of my career included the launch of Gleevec, a blockbuster cancer drug for the treatment of CML and GIST. Prior to that, I completed a Ph.D in respiratory medicine at Kings College, University of London.

I remain a science geek at heart and write a blog on the science and biology of cancer, interspersed with research on the practical applications of web tools to life science and competitive intelligence.

What is competitive intelligence?

"There are no secrets, only information you don't yet have."

Hi Sally,
Martha sent me the invitation for this site and I have joined it. I sent you a couple of e-mails a few days ago after our discussion at the SCIP meeting on October 12.
Regards,
Revati (RJ)

Reminds me of a funny story. Some years ago I was interviewed for a business magazine's cover story about CI. My picture was to appear on the magazine cover. After the photo shoot, I idly asked the magazine folk what title they would give the sto...

I have found that there are two general attitudes behind all the reasons why a company would not look at its competitors -- arrogance and ignorance. Arrogance: we're the market leader, and as long as we keep serving our customers well, there's no ...

I'm going to play devils advocate here. It's possible that this company has its feet firmly on the ground - and is actually thinking more than many of us do. As CI professionals we focus on competitors - perhaps to too great an extent if we igno...

This is an excellent book by a friend of mine. He is an excellent presenter www.dan-terry.co.uk I have learned so much from him in terms of engaging with the audience.

Dear Sheila, Arik and Mislav, thank you for your answers. They are very helpful. Sheila, count me in for support if you ever plan on doing a "CI meets strategy map" presentation. I have looked for Mr. Carnevale-Maffe on this network, but he's not ...

Now that's pretty interesting - what does Sharia say about competition in general and CI practices specifically - even "ethical" ones which might not have the best interests of the counter-party at heart?
